Early and Modern Transport Diagram | Inquiry

Today we were looking at the change of early and the modern mode of transport. We labeled the different parts of one of the land, sea, rail, and air.
In the Boeing, they have 12 seats for passegners whilst the Emirates have a number of seats for passengers who book their flight.

I found this task interesting because there were a lot of upgrades between the Boeing 80 and Emirates.

An interesting fact I learnt during this activity was that there were a minimum amount of seats (12) in the Boeing 80 made in 1828.

Match Strike 1888 | Inquiry

LI: To identify the significance of the Match Girls Strike of 1888.

Today we had a session with David, our PB4L leader. He was teaching us about the match girls strike of 1888. This Strike of 1888 explains the hardships that the match girls went through, this eventually led to a protest trying to raise awareness for women who don’t get appreciate their hard work by not getting paid.An interesting fact I learnt during this activity was that the women who worked for the company got a injury called phossy-jaw and still had to work for 12 to 14 hours.

Provacation

Today we had a provacation about  if we should  keep fireworks or ban fireworks. A provacation you look at both sides of an agrument. First we reasearch about fireworks to gain an understanding to create our perspective. We then created a list for both perspectives.

We then chose 3 of those notes and applied it onto a t-chart. We then had our exteneded disscusion to share our ideas with our group. My group thinks we should keep fireworks because it creates an amazing view for people and it’s the parents/guardians responbility to look after their pets and new born.

Informal and Formal language

As the activity we did was about informal and formal texts. An informal text is where you speak to people who you know for a long time.

A formal text is someone who is talking respectfully to someone like your boss or someone that is important. The DLO we made shows that difference between the two texts. An example of both is It’s not fair! Informal text | You see that is quite not right for others, you know that. Formal text.

We found this activity an interesting task because we had to start our sentences with formal words that we had to make up.

Maniakalani Film Festival

Today marks the 15th year of the Maniakalani Film Festival. We went to Hoyts Cinema and Sylvia Park to watch films from schools in the maniakalani cluster .

My favourite film was the Pokeblade from our school Panmure Bridge School. I love the overall aspect of the video and I found it really entertaining and funny. Outside of our school I liked ruapotaka film. It was yet again another funny and entertaing film. I liked seeing what the students were thinking about while day dreaming.

I enjoyed going to the manaikalani film festival because of how all morals were given in the short films .

Family Tree

LI: To create your family tree

For our Te Reo Maori challenge we had to make our family tree. A family tree is the different genarations of your family. Like your mum, your mums mum etc. I found this task enjoyable because I was able to showcase my family tree.

We chose birds because the New Zealand bird of the year award is going to be announced soon on the 31st of October. We looked through different videos that taught us about the technique used in order to get a nice background. I found this activity interesting because I was able to learn different painting  techniques.

Collaborative Challenge Text: Cinderella

LI: To rewrite the story of Cinderella using a different narrative perspective.

We have been continuing our learning about the different perspectives authors bring to a text. Our challenge today was to change the fairy tale of Cinderella from third person omniscient to second person.

Second person the writer using pronouns like you, your and yours. Second person is a similar perspective to first person but using pronouns like you, your, yours and yourself. The writer has the narrator speaking to the reader, words like “you” and “your” are used in this point of view.
